Situated on the west coast of Mexico, Banderas Bay offers long stretches of unparalleled coastline. The bay is one of Mexico’s largest and one of the world's deepest; offering superb sport fishing for sailfish, marlin, tuna and other game fish and a nursery for humpback whales November through March.

Weather and Climate


The Banderas Bay area has a typical tropical climate. During peak tourist season, the weather in the area is generally warm, dry and sunny with comfortable balmy nights.

The bay and the surrounding mountains offer shelter from pacific winds and harsh weather resulting in virtually 365 days of sunshine. Book fishing trips and guided tours with confidence.

It’s a rare occurrence that you’ll need to reschedule due to unsuitable weather. Winter temperatures hover between 18-30 degrees Celsius, perfect for sunbathing and sunset strolls!


 
 

Getting Around

Getting around the Bay area is safe, easy and affordable. Walking is a safe and an economical option for travelers of all ages especially in Bucerias and La Cruz. The locals are always friendly and helpful and the area is generally free of street and beach peddlers and timeshare sales representatives. Enjoying these towns on foot allows you to immerse yourself in the ambience and culture that is uniquely Mexican.

Bus service is available to almost everywhere and is also an inexpensive option for the budget minded traveller. Safe and easy to use, it is a popular transportation method for tourists and locals alike.

Taxis are plentiful and relatively inexpensive depending on your destination. Hire a taxi for a short trip or a full day of service driving around and taking in the scenic Mexican landscape, remember the fare is always negotiable.

For those looking to rent a car, there are numerous rental locations in Puerto Vallarta and Bucerias. For those who would like the flexibility of having their own transportation available to them but without the hassle of driving themselves, car and driver rentals are also an option.
 

Exploring The Area

The town of Bucerias, is renowned for it’s golden-sand beach stretching as far as the eye can see. Bucerias, chalk full of character, is ready to surprise you.

A little further north from Bucerias is the still sleepy fishing village of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. The highlight of La Cruz it the newly completed state-of-the-art Marina. Stroll along side the boats and yachts on the boardwalk as you make your way to the fresh fish markets to purchase freshly caught fish to fry up for lunch. This traditional town has an eclectic mix of fine restaurants, taco stands, boutiques and family owned stores. You won’t be disappointed!

North of La Cruz is the beach village of Punta Mita. Punta Mita offers a touch of rural Mexico and boasts family friendly beaches.

The City of Puerto Vallarta is a short bus or cab ride away. Spend a full day or busy afternoon touring all the sights, sounds and tastes this bustling city has to offer.
